Fixing Errors on Your Credit Report First of all, don't let anyone tell you that using a "credit report error repair company" is the way to go. There might be some completely legitimate companies out there -- but there is nothing that they can do for you that you can't already do yourself. There is a range of different credit errors to look for, each having its own characteristics. One of the major errors to look for is identity theft. Look for any purchases or accounts that you don't recognize at all. Also, look for inquiries by creditors you don't recognize -- just because they didn't open the account doesn't mean it's not a crime.
One very important thing that we recommend is to document everything you do. This includes dates and times of phone calls, people you spoke with, what they said, what your action was etc. Keep copies of everything you send them. Never send original documents -- send copies. Remember to be aggressive and very persistent. This process may take a while and usually lasts three to six months. |
